Added a nifty little feature today that is proving quite useful already: On each show page you’ll now see an “add to ical” link which when clicked will add the show to any calendar program you’re running that supports the ical format:

Now you can quickly add a show that looks interesting to your calendar.
Hope you like it!

So this weekend on the whim of a request, I implemented the ability to create a “badge” a la twitter badges so a band can list their shows on their site, blog, or anywhere else and style to their heart’s content.
Example via thrice since I’m seeing them tmw :)
Here’s the code snippet:
<div id="sbox_div">
<h2>Upcoming Shows</h2>
<ul id="sbox_shows_list"></ul>
<a href="http://thesqueakerbox.com/thrice" id="twitter-link" style="display:block;text-align:right;">follow me on thesqueakerbox</a>
</div>
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://thesqueakerbox.com/javascripts/show_badge.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://thesqueakerbox.com/thrice/shows.json?callback=shows_callback&count=5"></script>
I’ll probably add instructions for bands to do this soon.
cool.

I’ve been slacking and neglecting thesqueakerbox. It seems for a while emails were not getting sent. Since that’s pretty much the main function of the site, that blows.
In my defense, I’ve been going to a lot of shows, so that’s good at least.
To get back into it, I’ve corrected the email issue, and added a band search on the bands page. Hooray!

Haven’t worked on the squeakerbox. much this week, but did push out some caching updates which should make the site faster overall.
Also have been doing some thinking about future plans for thesqueakerbox., and here’s what’s next:
Better band list: this is much needed. I’m thinking about making it three “tabs” with a listing of just your bands, all bands, and then . . . recommended bands!
This is going to take a good chunk of work, but think how great it will be when you can find bands similar to bands you already like and then see when they’re playing near you.
mmm, tasty.

thesqueakerbox needs your help spreading the word of local music, oh and how to find it on the squeakerbox too. (hey, we gotta downplay the shameless call for promotion some how).
here’s what you could do (in order of effort).
1. become a fan on facebook (post it on your profile if you’re really bold).
2. follow @thesqueakerbox on twitter and send us some love.
3. tell a friend.
4. write on your blog about how you love thesqueakerbox.
5. tell another friend.
we would love you for it.
love,
thesqueakerbox.

This week on thesqueakerbox we added a few features that you asked for:
You asked for an alphabetical sort of ‘my bands’, which made a lot of sense, and was really just an oversight. Anyway, it’s there now.
The other main feature was a link to each band’s website on their page, so as you’re browsing bands, you can check them out online.
Fixed a few bugs too.
Leave some feedback on what you would like to see, and we just might add it. Keep talking, we’re listening.
love,
thesqueakerbox.

I love music and I love going to shows. I also hate paying ticketmaster fees, but it’s much easier to find a ticketmaster show than it is to hear about a show at the bar down the street, and this frustrated me.
The idea of thesqueakerbox started forming when I thought, what if there was a place online where you could find local and indie shows as easily as you can find the big bands?
So I made one. Nothing too fancy, just local shows. Sign up, follow the bands that you like, and get an email when they add a show near you.
I hope you like it.
